Hi, I'm Lesley from How You Think Coaching and Training. I'm guessing you're visiting this page because you're stressed and I know what that feels like.  


I suffered from stress when my first marriage ended and the thought of starting my life again was terrifying. I've been stressed when I started as a Learning and Development Consultant and the thought of standing up in front of groups made me physically sick. I've been stressed when I worked for an organisation that wasn't the right fit for me and I was forced to adhere to principles that weren't mine.  


Over the years, stress has reared it's ugly head on multiple occasions. It caused me to develop unhealthy, obsessive habits so I would feel in control.  It affected my health, in the form of migraines which would knock me out for days. 


After a while I realised I was treating the symptoms of stress but not the cause. I also realised that it is impossible to eliminate stress. I didn’t want to be a victim of stress so I started researching the subject and realised that if I changed my mindset I could change my life!

I set about developing a range of tools and techniques that enabled me to cope with stress. I also took steps to build up my resilience to stress so that stressful situations provided me with focus and energy rather than ill-health. 


The results have been well worth the effort I have put in. I now run my own successful Learning and Development consultancy with my business partner Paul. I deliver masterclasses at the Welsh Annual Coaching Conferences and run Live Well Programmes for those struggling with stress and imposter syndrome.

Coaching is a conversation

As your coach, I am here to listen and ask questions. Coaching is simply a conversation between you and me to help you explore what's causing you stress and support you on your journey to using the stress as a catalyst for change. It's your time to talk freely about what's bothering you, what's on your mind and explore these problems with somebody who's impartial and focused solely on you. I can relate and empathise with your struggles as I've been there myself, but the aim of every session will be to help you.

Coaching gives you fresh eyes on your situation

When we're stressed, we become very insular and inwardly focused. Our minds can become transfixed on the problem, everything that could go wrong, everything that's already gone wrong. It's like we're tying our thoughts up in a knot. When this happens, it's hard to take a step back and get any perspective on the situation. Coaching is ideal for this, as when we talk through your stresses and worries, I'll look out for assumptions or thought patterns and help you identify any triggers, and what may be holding you back. Together we'll sift through the noise in your head to get a clear understand of what's happening for you.

Unlike some talking therapies, coaching isn't about delving into your past. Instead it's about looking to the future and moving you forward. Although we might talk about your life in general and what's led you to this point, the focus is on what's happening now and planning a way forward that is right for you, so you can manage your stress properly.
